O Sovereign Lord, Governor among the nations and Keeper of Your Church, You who sit enthroned above the turmoil of the earth and rule in righteousness and truth, I draw near to You at this time of great turmoil in the Church and trial for many Christians in different parts of the world, including Nigeria. You see, O Lord, the distress of Your people across the world — the wars that ravage nations, the unrest that troubles regions, the violence that silences the innocent, and the fear that grips many hearts. And in my own land, Nigeria, You see the wounds we carry — the insecurity, the bloodshed, the divisions, the cries rising from villages and cities alike. Yet above all, O God, You see Your Church — pressed, challenged, and tested in this generation. Therefore Lord let the refining fire of Your Holy Spirit remove from the body of Christianity the pestilence of compromise, self aggrandisement, the wounds of duplicity, and injury of altars of ignorance and the love of money and power.
O Christ, Head of the Church and Prince of Peace, arise and strengthen Your people. Where fear has crept in, establish courage. Where compromise has entered, restore conviction. Where weariness has settled, release fresh strength. Call Your Church in Nigeria and across the nations back to holiness, to truth, and to unwavering faith. Let us not bow to pressure, nor be shaped by the spirit of this age, but stand firm in the gospel entrusted to us.
O Holy Spirit, Breath of God and Fire of revival, move again among Your people. In places where violence seeks to silence faith, let boldness arise. In regions where believers are threatened or displaced, be their covering and their defence. Where churches are weakened by division or distraction, restore unity and purpose. Raise up men and women of prayer, voices of truth,
and lives marked by integrity. Let Your Church rise — not in fear, but in power; not in retreat, but in witness; not in confusion, but in clarity.
Lord of our Internal Peace, stand sentry over the minds of the faithful who feel the weight of isolation and persecution in this and other lands. Father let not the Church be a “museum of the past,” but a “fortress of the future” — a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. Grant me and other Christians the courage to carry the Cross not as a trinket, but as a “burning mandate.” Let our unity be our armour and our holiness be our weapon, reflecting the uncreated light of the One who has already overcome the world.
O Lord of Hosts, Mighty Defender of the oppressed, stretch forth Your hand over Nigeria. Bring an end to bloodshed and violence. Restrain the works of terror and injustice. Expose every hidden evil and frustrate every plan that destroys life. Grant wisdom and integrity to those in authority, that justice may prevail and peace may be established. Let righteousness flow through our land like a river, and let peace take root where fear has lived.
O God of all comfort and strength, remember Your children who suffer for Your Name. Those in captivity, be their freedom. Those in hiding, be their refuge. Those in grief, be their consolation. Let none be abandoned. Let none lose heart. Let none turn away. Strengthen them to stand,
to endure, and to remain faithful, even unto the end. Grant, O Lord, that the “Oil of Joy” replace the spirit of heaviness in those who are persecuted, and that the “Bread of Life” sustain those who are hungry for righteousness in a parched land.
O Eternal King, Builder of Your Church and Light of the nations, purify us and make us steadfast. Let the Church in Nigeria rise in truth and holiness. Let the Church across the world shine in unity and power. Make us a people who pray without ceasing, who love without compromise,
and who stand without fear. Father, grant a resurrection of Apostolic power in our pulpits and our pews. Grant, O Lord, that no weapon formed against the Gospel shall find its mark, and every tongue that rises against Christianity be convicted in judgment and come to Christ, the Truth.
Jehovah Nissi, our Banner and our Great Defender, let the Church arise from this Lenten stripping — not weakened, but washed; not defeated, but refined—shining with the glory of the Risen Christ until the day of His appearing. Father, grant that Your Church be the Kingdom on earth that cannot be shaken; Christianity the power that overcomes every darkness; and its witness the glory that fills the earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord, the Prince of Peace, the faithful Witness, and the Head of the Church. Amen
